How many MPG do you get?
So I am interested in buying a 2004-2008 x3 and am interested in the mileage. I see online it says 16 to 22 miles per gallon; however, the 530i says 19-27 mpg but I get up to 45 mpg on the highway.
|
My wife drives really light and get 24 overall. That is 75% highway.
HWY mpg at 60 mph is 28. However, if you start to get on it a lot (like when I drive it) I get about 19. I pull a boat and get 20mpg @ 70 mph. I was concerned about mileage when I first got this thing. Now it's been 6 months, and I love it so much I don't care about MPG. |

I have a 09 with auto and 96k bought new and my 6 month average on BC is 23 mpg with a bias toward highway (75% hwy/25% city).
Highway only I can return 24 to 25 mpg all day long at about 80 mph max...I have found speeds higher than that and mpg goes down. City I get between 21 and 22 typically as long as I don't get too heavy on the gas in sport mode at stop lights. |
2008 50/50 highway/city averaging 20 MPG.
On highway only 24 MPG Intown between 18-19 MPG Towing Polaris RZR S between 13-15 MPG "Hey, look at the BMW Redneck towing his RZR!" I know I need to take a picture. Steve |
I have a 2007 with 40K miles:
Highway - 24mpg Traffic - 19mpg Sport mode - 14mpg |
check out www.fuelly.com for a less biased list. after over 28k miles (in under a year) i'm right at 23.8

Average 21 mpg in our 2004 x3 3.0i with 134,000 miles. 5 speed auto transmission.
|
18-19 in the city
22-24 highway (depending on wind, hills, etc) 16-17 towing a 5x8 enclosed trailer with my MX bike and all related gear |
17.2 on BC, 90% city. This is for a 2008 3.0si over about 1500 miles.
|
2005 automatic transmission 3.0i with 160,000 miles
Best observed highway mpg was 24 mpg doing 55-60 mph. More realistic driving for me is 21 mpg at 75-80 mph. Average city highway mix for me is 17mpg. |
I'm averaging 21.1 mpg, with a mix of city and highway -- to give you an idea, my typical "average mph" is in the low 40's. Manual tranny... I stay close to the speed limit in town, but cruise about 15 over on the highway... Best observed is 24.8, and worst is 18.5 mpg.

My normal drive to/from work one-way is 40 miles. It breaks down to about 8 city avg (40mph or so avg), 20 freeway (75ish) and 12 (60ish) rural hwy. The OBC reads 21.7 like clockwork. Long distance open road on the freeway averaging 75-85 its usually about 23-24. That drops to about 21-22 climbing mountains or with a bad headwind. The same driving in my wife's 03 525i auto is about +5 mpg across the board. |

We're new to the BMW world....Have a 2005 X3 for a couple of months...We are averaging 19 city and 26 highway and 22 combined.
Great lil' SUV. R. Oh yeah, It's the 3.0i engine and automatic transmission. No towing (got my Tundra for that) and 73k miles on it. |
08 Auto & OBC is saying 21.7. Thats with a mix of driving as average speed is 41mph. Wifes car btw.

3.0i Auto
City: 18mpg Highway: 24mpg |
I consistently drive between highway (80%) 70-80 mph 25 mpg/local (20%) 15-45 mph 17 = combined 22mpg
