White smoke from exhaust, help!
After driving my car for about 30 minutes I came home and later decided to go out again but as I started my car a huge cloud of white smoke came out and it continued to do so everytime I started it. Does anyone know what it could be?? Also what is the front cover underneath called?

I drive a 2004 525I

Thank you!

Happened to me as well my mechanic said its condensation build up you probably need to take it out on the highway and open it up a bit ,when temp changes the build up begins almost make you think its a gasket leak

check your ccv/oil separator for leaking

Check your coolant level just to make sure that it isn't a cooling system problem. Just to be safe.

did u get car washed recently or recent rain? check for water covering your brake master cylinder. there could be a drainage clog there and water getting pulled into vacuum imto engine. i know ;-)

Depending on the outside temperatures, white smoke may in fact be steam. Now, where the water came from is important, as if it is from the inside of the engine, it can be really bad. But, if it's external from a big puddle, washing it, etc., it's no big deal other than surprising.

Not sure when BMW eliminated the oil dip stick, but if you have one, look at the oil after you pull it out. If it looks chocolaty rather than the normal oil color, you have a coolant leak into the oil. If you have a head leak, that's bad, too.

Might be nothing, but definitely needs to be checked before big damage could occur.
