Rear tinted screen appears orange in the rain?
Hi I've just had my car windows tinted. When I went to pick it up, in the rain, the first the thing I noticed was that the rear screen appears to be orange.
When it's dry it's fine. I remember reading someone else had the same issue but I can't seem to find the thread Does anyone know why this is? Thanks |
I Think its a cheap material tint mate! Mine never does this

I still haven't got to the bottom of this however I'm just putting up with it until someone can confirm why it's doing this. .
I've attached a picture below of how it looks when it's wet. |
Whoa.... there is no reason why your tint should look like that. Take it back on a rainy day and show the guys who installed it. Then have them remove it and refund you your money. Go to a reputable tinter man...

Ewwwww....
Test warm water vs cold. It may be a temp thing, which would also point to the tint's reaction to temperature. |
I remember that other post, it was on the bimmer forums.co.uk site though, here it is:

Okay iv spoken with my tinting guy and he's happy to redo the rear screen no problems however he's asked if I know what make tints other peeps used with no probs on there 6ers.
I said ill try and find out, do any of you guys know what make tints you have on yours?? |
Ok I think I may be onto something, I have been in touch with the other guy who has the same issue above and he mentions that it may have something to with the rear screen being double glazed and a layer of air in between the two panes.
Are all e63 rear screens double glazed? I had a look around the edges of my rear screen and it is too double glazed. Funny thing I have a S class which it to double glazed with no problems :dunno: |
Well, I have a convertible so my back window is very small compared to the coupe. But it never has any color issues. My tint guy used the following:
http://www.solargard.com/us/Auto/HP_Supreme He put Supreme 30 on the rear and 22 on the sides on 10/24/09 and they still are perfect. |
Hi ! Not all glass is the rear windscreens is the same. whilst my car was not after-market tinted, I did have the rear screen replaced as the radio failed to work as it also houses the aerial.
When it was replaced it was different in its natural tint, was not a problem for me at all, but given you guys are having an issue when it is tinted you maybe suffering from colour/tint class of mixing colours, ie red/yellow make orange, or simply that when the car gets cold it causes a change in the colour, I say this because the tint effect is uniform!!!!! I doubt there is little you can do!!! |
Mine has never done this and mine is a coupe

I've seen lots of window tinting in my lifetime, but I have never seen one do that before. I would be MAD if that was me... |
