M5 - Kidney Grills -completed MOD
3 Attachment(s)
From day one, the all chrome kidney grilles on my 550i didn't appeal to me. They just didn't seem to match the personality of the M Sport package. I thought the all black version was a little dark on AW, but the M5 version with chrome exterior and all black grille fins looked perfect - so I bought a pair...
Install is easy- no need to disassemble any part of the front bumper, the grilles pop out by gently pulling on each side, its a 3 minute job. Here are the before and after results! |
I did mine the hard way by taking off the top of the bumper. You can pull them out, but I honestly didn't want to risk breaking the tabs. If I had to do it again, I would do the same way. It only takes 20 minutes.

Looks really sharp. Good work.

Looks good - I'm wanting to do the same thing. Where did you get them?

If you get them and you need a hand, let me know. |
Nice job!
If anyone gets a good link or digits to order these, please let me know as I would like to jump on board this mod! |
Really subtle mod, but it works wonders for that front end, quite a stunning improvement. Now that the mod bug has bitten you whats next hahaha

Looks dope. I did the same to my ride. Love it.
|
Where can you order them?

The real M5 grilles have 12 fins. I ordered mine through BMW and got one with 10 and one with 12. I'm waiting for a 12 to complete my car.
This one is at the dealer with a 10K markup |

Ordered mine from BMW of Silver Spring over a month ago. Picked up my car in Santa Barbara yesterday, drove back up north today and the install took about 45 seconds since the car (and existing grilles) were very hot after long drive in 95 degrees. I can imagine all the tabs breaking if one tried the direct method after a few years though. My E46 grill certainly did. I'm not sure this is the wisest $100+ spent on a new grill that is only slightly different than the original but it looks good and I can always use the original as replacements if necessary.

they are not: here are the part #'s 51138054491 GRILLE, FRONT, L 51138054492 GRILLE, FRONT, R but be on notice that there seems to be a problem at the plant in Poland where they are packaged - the right grilles are being mis labeled. see above posts |
i see gloss black . what about flat black to match lower part of bumper on m sport? it would be a better match.
