Air Filter Replacement - '00 M Roadster

Any suggestions on a performance air filter for a '00 M Roadster? I don't know if the oils in the K&N filters will harm anything... K&N works great for the Land Rover but I want to be safe than sorry! Any suggestions appreciated! - Shaw

I ordered a $325.37 MAF this morning for an 01 ///M Rdstr.

I'll also be removing the K&N filter and replacing it with an OE PAPER one.

Thanks Randy, Staying stock! That sucks... sorry you had to shell out that dough! This is exactly why I asked.

You're new here; I hardly ever post pictures of my own cars...

... and you'd certainly never find a K&N filter in one!

I am new here. I'm the guy trying to find his dads car!

The OEM paper flows pretty well.

And there aren't really any HP gains with a freer flowing intake, without doing a number of other mods.

Believe it or not, I think the OEM paper is the best.

Shaw ..A very reasonable question. The air intake / oiled filter upgrade seems to be the first 'mod' applied to just about any vehicle..except BMW . :)
When I got my 08 Z4 3.0si last year I just assumed I'd be stopping by the performance shop on the way home from the dealership.
When I searched for info I was surprised to discover that, unless I was tracking the car, there could be little improvement experienced over stock !
And here I was expecting to be warned about invalidating my warranty.
I took the advice and left well enough alone, taking comfort that BMW must do a pretty good job of engineering in the first place.
Plus ever since I was a kid and a slot car fanatic. I ruined my best car ..a Monogram Ferrari 250 GTB, by converting it into a 911 Porsche. The result was top heavy and performed like a turtle - rolling over at most corners ..
Well I am suspect at many mods because spending money for less performance just encourages the modifier to claim amazing results.
So be careful of any claims and you are wise to ask for advice here.
Cheers and good luck with your Dad's car. Just drive it and enjoy it. Save your money for tires !
