Brakes making squeaking noise
I have a 2001 BWM 320i and my back breaks are squeaking. I'm not a big car guy so I'm not too sure what parts exactly to change. I was thinking of buying them separately and then getting my mechanic to put them in.

Can someone please let me know exactly what parts are needed to change the brakes? Also, can someone recommend a source to buy the parts?

You will need...
pair of these
set of these
couple of these
(not mandatory if old ones are fine but these don't cost much)

ofcourse you will get yours from your own place, but they should look quite like these.
Be careful to get exactly the ones which fit your car model/year.

I just changed rear brakes today, and it took bit under 4hours all together, pro mechanic should be quicker than that.

The back brakes only do about 30% of the braking. My car is at 90K and the rotors and pads still look good, and I am pretty sure they are original. You didn't say how many miles are on your car, and that has a lot to do with it.

If I were you, I would take the car to my mechanic and have him look at the brakes before doing anything else. If something needs replacing, ask if you can bring your own parts. Some garages are fine with that and some are not. If he is o.k. with you buying the parts, l would suggest looking at the websites for Pelican Parts, oembimmerparts and rockauto. Also, ebay has some good deals on brake parts. If this is a BMW-saavy mechanic, ask him for brand recommendations - you have a lot of good choices.

Rear brakes do traction control, that's why they might wear quicker than would expect, but of course it's good to first check old ones properly.
