I am a new BMW owner and would welcome some opinions on a few things. I have a 2008 M-Sport 550i with a manual transmission and 30,000 miles.
Everything mentioned in the title are things I would like to service, which I will do myself. They are also all things that BMW says are "Lifetime" non-service items, minus the coolant. I am probably going to service these regardless but I would like to know what people think.
Also what do people recomend for the flowing fluids:
-Coolant, 50/50 or Lifetime Blend
-Motor Oil, brand and viscosity
-Manual Gearbox Oil, brand/type
Also, has anyone had any experience using the drain plugs that have magnets in them for collecting metal shavings?
I run an 07 550 Sport 6 MT.
I use BMW coolant.
I use BMW Castroil Motor Oil
Redline Tranny fluid and Rear Diff oil
But...there's nothing magical about any of those.
Coolant: BMW, change at 3-years or 60,000 miles
Oil: BMW Castrol or Mobil 1 0W40 (available at Walmart for $6/quart)
Differential: Redline 10W90
