Another 2010 535xi issue.
So it's been getting cold (-1 c) in the morning, and the car is not liking it. The very first early morning start end up with a service engine light, revs below 500 rpm then hesitates and shuts off. I would have to turn it back on and rev it to 2000 rpm then drive off. But even as it drives off it feels very heavy.
Called BMW assist, since the closest dealer is 500 Kms away from me, and they were useless. Can't do anything for me till a week from now Any ideas? |
Is the gas tank full? Are you using 93 octane? Plugs and coils ok?
|
how many miles if you are under 50 they should tow it for you as well. you need a loaner too!
|
It has 20k miles. It's well within the warranty but their service is garbage. They are willing to tow the car there and get it fixed but they can't tow it back. I will have to pick it up. So I was hoping to take care of the issue without towing it there.
91 is the highest octane I can get here. I don't think the plugs have been changed before |
was just wondeing if condensation had gotten into the tank and fuel lines.
It sounds like a fuel delivery problem, so could also be the HPFP or injectors. BMW will know as soon as they connect the car to a diagnostic computer, should show the fault codes. |

Canada sucks in that case dude. Damn well as long as they service and warranty the work that all that matters. |
not sure where the OP from but Calgary Canada is one of the worse place to own BMW. both dealership services is worse than Kia. 200% piece of **** services. i try to avoid them as much as i could.
|
A low/weak battery would cause weird symptoms. Have you gotten the battery checked out? Might be something simple like that.
|
yeah, if the battery is over 4 years old then it might be time for a new one.
Doesn't fit the symptoms though, once the car is started up and running then the alternator is juicing the battery. It wouldn't start the car if it was too low on juice, so doesn't make sense. But good to rule ut that issue. |

worse than kia is rough statement |

So your telling me you can't buy a BMW in Canada because the service is such sh!t the car will inevitability fail?
|
I wish I was living in Calgary. At least you have 2 dealers near you. I life in fort Mcmurray man, the closest dealer is in Edmonton! So I called Edmonton BMW yesterday and the first thing the service manager asked was did I just move from Vancouver! Since I bought the car from Vancouver in July because it was 10k cheaper. I didn't even think about the consequences when I told him I just bought it from there, he told me there aren't any loaners available for me, nor can he get my car car in right away. It might be a week or so.
|
And another thing, they are willing to tow my car to Edmonton but once the car is fixed, I have to figure out a way to go get the car. They will not tow it back. Talk about unnecessary expenses.
|
Nothing so great about Calgary - both dealers are owned by the same people, so there's no competition between them.
I'd be looking at the plugs if it was mine, plus trying another gasoline vendor. And the comment about 93 octane being required: give me a break. 91 is plenty, but PetroCan has 94 at most places. Octane defines resistance to knock - any more than the engine needs is a waste of money as all grades have the same BTU/lb. Good luck with your car. |
Thanks audiophool. Both petrocanada and shell top off at 91. I have been using petro but will switch to shell.
As for the car, the service engine light no longer turns off when restarting the car and I think there's a new knocking noise coming from the engine that wasn't there before. It increases as I rev higher. |
A quick update. A tow truck came from Edmonton to Fort Mcmurray just to tow the car back to Edmonton!
I called customer relations, apparently the option of towing the car back to me when it's fixed in not available in Canada, it's only in the states! So I will have to fly or rent a car and go to Edmonton to pick it up! But BMW is willing to reimburse me up to $100 back for my expenses, woopty do. |
You could make a TV reality show out of this. "Life on the Tundra."
|
Haha yeah really. The service manager wanted to make me feel better, told me he has a customer that lives on the border of Alaska and he still had to get the car himself!
