Oxygen Sensor for 2008 528i.
Does it have to be replaced by a mechanic or can a person with average mechanical ability do it himself?

Easy DIY. This is for the Pre-Cat, which are usually the ones that fail. The o2 socket is like $1.99 at Harbor Freight.
