Would you leave your 650 for a M6?

Given the huge lost of value of an used MY12, would you bite the bullet and go for a M6?
I feel tempted...

ShakeDaddy 10-30-2012 09:57 PM

Don't start. That would only cost you 40 Large.

mdkeltz 10-30-2012 10:31 PM

Nope.... would consider the Dinan Stage 2/3 at a later date... 510hp! Woo Hoo!

southern6er22 10-30-2012 11:36 PM

If money were no issue, then yes.

Since money and reality must be factored into the decision, (a) the hit by selling my car right now is sickening to think about and (b) the M6 is more car than I need - this is assuming I need an impractical, $100k, V8 BMW  - and costs more than I'm willing to spend right now.

With their special this month you understand the timing of the question

I still can't shake the feeling that the cars are way too similar. I know the M police will crucify me, but even the engine is similar. That also repeats with the M5/550M. Add some Dinan tune to it, gets even closer. Different issue if the V10 was still on.

Still not a M car though...

Hofstet 10-31-2012 01:49 AM

Since I own my '12 650i w/M Sport I'm seriously considering the Dinan Stage 2 for spring '13, or I'll keep it another year and maybe order a '14 M6. Needless to say, alot depends on how the economy goes in the coming year, or so (Nov 6).

For how much do you think your car would sell?

If you take your car to the track I can see making the switch.
But if you intend to use an M for daily drivng, it just doesn't make much sense to me. The 650 is no slouch. Not at all.

Be honest, this is all about that measuring stick....isn't it! lol

In the end its your money and ego. If you want the M, just do it and quit marinating about it.

Hofstet 10-31-2012 08:26 AM

My only justification for buying an M6 would be that I could. Logically makes no sense.

EmM HoLLa 10-31-2012 08:28 AM

No... The lack of fog lights on the front of the M6 is a deal breaker for me... Plus I've never actually driven one so ignorance is bliss.. Finally the Dinan Stage 2 would cure any power fix that I might need later on down the line...

petriej 10-31-2012 11:59 AM

You can easily add foglights. Plenty of people did that on the E63 M6.

I don't know, maybe $75k to $85k. That's a guestimate, but the 3013 changes aren't doing us any favors as brand new '12s are going for so much less now. I knew when I bought it outright that I'd hold onto it for a few years as the depreciation hit would be brutal.

Ace535i 11-01-2012 02:50 AM

Are you certain that the 2013s have accelerated the depreciation rate of the 2012s? Are the differences that significant?

Probably the only way to know for sure is to compare todays price of a 12 with next year this time price of a 13.

IMO, where it's going to be signicant is the used car 650i buyer 2 to 6 years from now that will without a doubt go with a 2013 over a 2012.

Good point! In your estimation, what particulars will the 2013s offer in better value over the 2012s, all other things being equal?

john mclane 11-01-2012 07:05 PM

It wont fetch more than 75k, best case scenario. That, in a car worth 105k MSRP as new 6 months ago... They have some 2012 M6 in the area, one listed for 110k (titled, 700mls). Still a lot of money...
Great news is that Dinan extended their special, I'm getting it uploaded tomorrow...

Holy Moly!! First year depreciation is ~ 28% on a new 2012 650i?

Is that retail or auction pricing?

Yep
That's the number they gave me at the stealership. I won't even be aggravated by haggling. Just go Dinan and Save myself a bundle, besides the cheaper insurance...

So your loaded 2012 650i coupé @ $105K in less than one year has been bidded at ~$75K??

For how much would they sell it?

EmM HoLLa 11-01-2012 08:23 PM

Jeez that's very very high...

@Petriej.. You're absolutely right.... For the most part I'm happy with the 650... I'm not really an M Guy...

I don't really bother about the low appraisal. A little fight it may go up to 78-80. My guess is that the numbers with stealerships are problematic now given a lot of MY12 leftovers

Ace535i 11-01-2012 08:50 PM

Thanks for your input fellow bimmermeister!!

Coming from a 2008 BMW M6, I will not let go my 2012 650 ic for a new BMW M6

Elias 11-02-2012 06:46 AM

Im perfectly satisfied with my 650i, 400 hp is more than enough and around these parts you really can't go much past 80 mph on the Interstates. Buying an M6 is a huge waste of money
for me and just plain doesn't make much economic or practical sense.

I feel the same way. (And the lack of xDrive is a killer for me, too.)
