850 power steering
Hi, I just got a 1991 850i, VIN WBAEG2318MCB73755. its an automatic. Its pretty cool, but has issues of course.
There seems to be a little drip of power steering fluid on the garage floor, and it makes a rhythmic thump noise about every 15 seconds when running. Makes the same sound stopped, at idle, or while moving. you can even sort of feel the thump in the steering wheel through the column. I'd appreciate any ideas on that.
Also, are they really this slow?? I understand the car is for the highway, not drag racing. But it seems VERY slow from a standing start or rolling. It runs smoothly, not missing or stumbling, but has just really underwhelming acceleration from any speed. If I leave the pedal floored, eventually I am going fast, but my pickup weighs 5700lbs with 310hp V8 and is so much faster. (At least at less than 100mph, I haven't tried any really high speeds :) ) Is that just how it is?
How quick is your truck from 80-150mph??? Its all gearing. The 8's are set up for long distance, high speed running. Get the Wokke chips for it, it'll wake it up quite a bit. Or, swap out the diff for a lower ratio, limited slip unit.
