Reverse M5 grille

I love the look of the all black F10 Performance Grille; however, the wifey did not like the all black look. I think the M5 grille looks good on dark cars; however, I don't think it has enough contrast on lighter color cars (with it's chrome ring/trim).

I bought a pair of the all black BMW Performance Grilles. I disassembled the ring and grille and matched it with the black/chrome grille on my 535i. I like that the trim is black, and I still have subtle chrome with the black slat/chrome 535i gills.

I love the result!

Disassembled and configured my new grille (on top). The left over is a beautiful M5 grille !

The icing on the cake is that I have a gorgeous perfect set of BMW M5 grilles that I can try, or sell. I love that these grille sets are BMW made :bigpimp:

Wow..agree completely...nice balance and matches rest of car, especially with shadowline trim.

Seems easy, how long did it take? Where did you get the performance grill?

Thanks

That looks great

I am glad that this change thrills you.

Thanks. It was painful 20-30 minutes. Hardest part is scraping your hands to remove the grille from the bumper. Swapping the gills and trim is easy.

This all black grille is an accessory made for the F10 by BMW. It is called the "BMW Performance Grille"

Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery

Just joking Mr. Deep ...It looks great! I dig it!

I was waiting for you to chime in :D. Much respect Mr Hungry. You are right, in that you gave me confirmation of the idea. I loved the black slats and subtle chrome of the 535i grille gills. I was pleasantly surprised to see you went through the artists route of perfectly painting your ring. I took a gamble that the performance grille would be built as a 2 piece set just as the factory grille. Glad I could pull off the same look, in an easier way.

Thanks again BigHungry!

Deep,

After looking at your pics again, I should have done the same thing. Although Iím not sure the performance grilles were available at the time when I did mine.

I have to admit that I like the color uniformity that the black rings give to Irene; however The DeepMobile looks amazing with the contrast of black on that paint color!!!!!
Plus you got the bonus of not having to wait for 2 days for the paint/clear to cure!

Just FYI and to give you some food for thought; I recently painted the lower rear diffuser to body color and debadged her too. See below.

Thanks brotha! Funny, I was actually debating about painting it after seeing your post; however, I did not think I would have the time (or my wife would have the patience :eeps:). Glad that this option worked out.

I actually think the grille looks crazy clean on your black. Heck, it has a meaner cleaner look on the HungerFighter!

I am loving the de-badge look. I may be following your coat-tail again! Dang, I feel like a Christy-Obama bromance here:D.

Btw, that Detailed Image website seems legit! I will have to get a consult soon!

I installed Turner Motorports flat black grills on my space gray car within a month of buying the car, but over the months since then I found that the black was too much. I saw in this thread what you have done; a combination of original and modified grills and decided to try it. I have the original grills in the car again, but the grill ring is now painted space gray and the vertical fins are the original chrome leading edge. I think that I like this much more on my car than I liked the all-black look. Thank you for the great idea and good pictures. This definitely helped me to make up my mind!

Glad you like it...after all, your post gave me the idea so thanks again to you! Now I want to fill the gap between the upper and lower sections of the fender, but I have no idea who can fabricate the product. Please refer to the red trapezoids inboard of the fog lights on the attached picture. The exact position, width, and slant are debatable...anything to guard against looking like a mouth with only incisors! Do you know anyone who can make this type of item? ( the picture is from last week, when the black grills were still installed)

BigDeep1 01-13-2013 08:36 PM

This is the working link to the install album (the link on my first post is not working):
