Over heat intermittenly
My 2008 328XI overheat warning light came on yellow then red ,pull over turn the car off.
After 5 min restart drove 25 mls with out the ligth coming on,that was 3 weeks ago. Had a oil change done Sunday after a 20 min drive the over heat light came on and there was coolant on and close to the overflow tank. Restart no problem ,got home let the car run in my driveway ,cant find a leak . Commute to work 30mls today without problem, could this be the water pump relay or the thermostat . BTW i not loosing coolant . |
Could be temp sensor or could be the water pump failing. I would pull codes and see what they say...

Water pumps failing.

The good news is: If you talk to your car, it will talk to you. Codes, please! |
Is coolant level at the full mark?
|
I did 130miles then pulled up drained the oil refilled drove 1 mile and the fan went spinning so fast it sounded like a plane. Anyways ot happens with no warning.

If someone has a good scanner they can command your waterpump on and then check to see if it is actually running. Then they can compare oil temperature to coolant temperature from a cold start and that will tell them whether it's a t'stat or not.

Download the data ,'water pump not working at full capacity"

Before they do the work have them check the oil filter housing gasket see if its seeping if it is have them change it at the same time and cut back on the labor. They have to do a colant flush when they change this gasket and its normaly good time to change it with your car being a 2008.
Also change the thermostate. Sucks but its a good peice of mind knowing its not going to cause the pump to fail. |
