Thank goodness for extended warranty
Like many posters on here, I was on the fence about buying extended warranty for my 2008 535 xi (production date July 2008). I had my fair share of problems while in warranty (a couple of HPFPs and a set of fuel injector) so I had a hunch that something else might go wrong with the car. I ended up buying extended warranty in February and boy was I glad. Since going out of warranty in March of this year, I have had the following going wrong with my car:
(1) a check engine light was traced to an engine seal that had to be replaced (out of service for two weeks); (2) a check engine light was traced to a low fuel pressure sensor and a DTML pump both of which were replaced; (3) a check engine light was traced to faulty fuel rail and fault fuel injector leading to a replacement of the fuel rail and injectors (another two weeks out of service); (4) while in the shop they also noticed my water pump went out, too. I just picked up the car for items 3 & 4 - and I am only at 57,500 miles. I would hate to have paid for all of that and am actually not too pleased to have had to pay to the warranty's $50 analytical charge for (1) - (3). It is kind of shocking that BMW makes cars that only last until 50,000 miles and then fall apart. I know my car is not the norm but I just wanted some of the people on here to be aware of what they might be in for. |
Did you get BMW or 3rd party extended warranty? If 3rd party - which one? I have Route 66...

Hey Phoenix1,
How r u doing? Did you have to use the warranty on any issues? Hope not! I am still running around 48.5k miles, shall see what is in the corner around end of year! Then decide to buy warranty or not. Got couple of Indy shops with in 3 miles! |
I got BMW Extended Warranty.

Munich77, Is that full PL coverage u got? How much did u have to pay if I can ask. I am quoted 4100 for full warranty 84m/100k. Yet debating if I want to pay ahead and deal with dealer or use close by 2 European/Indy shops and see what happens. Only issue I have is if I want to sell, people wont prefer if there is no warranty. I can deal with having to pay for repairs under my ownership.

I got my full PL BMW one for $3450. you can buy it from any dealer so check the various BMW related boards or you can ask your dealer to price match.

Hum, thx. Is yours 535i also? Looks like model numbers make some diff like 528 vs 535 vs 535xi etc.

Mine is a 528i but when I was doing my research the higher models were getting about the same quotes

I bought Route 66 extended warranty at 47K months and 42K miles. Gave me a TOTAL of 100k miles or ADDITIONAL ( not total) 60 months. Will take me through 2016. $0 deductible. $2500. Only available through credit unions.

I used Daniel Dutton at Pacific - it was a bit more expensive then that when I got it.
