whats the point of getting nappa leather in 640i gran coupe or coupe
 

i just noticed on bmwusa that if you order nappa leather ($3000) you have to order leather instrument pannel ($3000) so basically $6000 for extended leather.
on the other hand you can get Full Leather Merino individual leather for only ($5000). a savings of $1000 plus the whole interior is leather including lower door area, glove box lid, under stearing wheel area.

It feels good to the touch. What's the need to buy a 640 for that matter?

Well merino leather is BMWs highest grade leather and the entire interior is covered in leather. If nappa leather was superior and softer than merino then M5 M6 and Individual pkg would all have nappa instead of merino. Intact in M5 and M6 merino is the only option.

I'm anxious to see the Merino leather on my upcoming GC, just to see if there really is a noticeable quality difference over Nappa.

The entire interior is covered in leather with Nappa as well. You cannot get ventilated seats with Merino. I agree it's a very nice leather and I have seen it. Myy 13' GC has plenty of leather for my needs and in the summer the ventilated seats are a nice plus.

when you get nappa leather its extended leather meaning your glove box lid, area outside of door pockets, under stearing wheel is all vinyl. seat center is leather but the back side is not leather.
in Merino leather its all leather. and ventilated seats are not part of nappa leather or merino leather. you have to get Luxury seating pkg ($3600) in order to get ventilated seats regardless of which leather you have.

Sorry, I stand corrected. I guess I would surprised if someone would order Merino leather and the Luxury seating package. I guess that's possible. I know if I ordered the Merino I wouldn't want a butch of holes punched into the seat for the ventilation.

I ordered both...

those holes are for a reason. its extra to have the holes. a lot of car makers offer perforated leather even without ventilation option because it looks better and breathes better. sorry to say but i think you paid $1000 more for less leather than $5000 merino FULL leather.

if you dont like holes on a leather then it has nothing to do with Nappa or merino. they are both top grade. i like both equal but the reason i went for merino is because why pay more for less leather.

i did the M sport with stand alone Individual leather. i can't stand the boring exterior looks of Individual Composition. lol
