AT Fluid Change question

2000 323i ATF change, can someone that has changed their ATF on a GM trans let me know what ATF fluid they used please.
Need to do this asap and since there seem to be different opinions depending on what thread you read I wanted to get suggestions for some folks that have changed their ATF with good results.

Dexron VI is the current version of GM`s long-time standby, and is marketed as being backward-compatible with all previous versions. However, some members (namely Starless Alex) have reported recently that all is not perfect, as the simple "Drain & Refill" leaves around 40% of the old ATF within the system, and it takes probably 3 repititions of the D&R procedure before almost all of the fluid has been replaced.

Good luck, and report back to let us know how you made out.

Thanks Bob,
Any brand of Dexron VI is compatible then? Heard of any difference in the brands?

You would THINK that they`re all basically the same, being manufacturered to GM specs, but who really knows ? You`re just gonna have to roll the dice to find out....

When I changed mine some 30,000 miles ago I used Ac Delco Dex VI using Starless' initial DIY in conjunction with a few others. I had non of the symptoms recently noted with his current Tranny oil change. That being said most of the current makers of Dex VI are of the syn blend variety and it seems as though Valvoline is one of the few if not only maker of fully synthetic Dex VI. The remaining bottle of AC Delco Dex VI I have does not say whether or not it is a blend or a full synthetic. I'm not sure if this has any bearing on his issues whatsoever but just an observance on my part for the OP.

Go to the dealer and ask for it. They have it in big drums in the back, so you'll probably get a few puzzled looks and the rep will try to convince you that:
1. You don't need to replace it.
2. They don't sell it.
but if you are persistent enough, they'll sell it to you (you need to bring your own container) for about $7 - $8 bucks per quart. Just make sure you know the part number - there should be a sticker on the pan saying what fluid to use.

Just did mine with Mobil Dexron VI which is what is supplied to the dealer.
Paid $9.73/qt
Drained 6.5qts refilled same amount & of course changed the filter etc.
Shifts are smoother.
I plan to do another change in about 10 to 15k.
My 04 330cic Auto has 100k exact

That makes me feel better. My 06 has 71k on it and I'm thinking about the change, but worried about the switch in fluid. I'm guessing I want the full synthetic Dex VI....

I use Valvoline QT-ATF Max Life VV324 for my cars all GM trannys. Works perfect for me $5/qt.

Another vote for this. Valvoline says it is a direct replacement for Texaco ETL8072B, which was a Dex III based fluid.

Been using this in my wife's X5 and it works great.

I used this in my daughter's 2004, 325I about two years ago with no issues.
