TPS replacement
I have narrowed my problem down to needing a new TPS, or at least a working one. My only question is, after I do the simple swap out, do I need to reset the adaptation values and clear the codes in the asc module and DME and everywhere else?

Is this drive by wire or cable--if it's cable drive on the throttlebody you may be able to switch out the sensor--if it's drive by wire--I'm not sure but I think you would have to trade out the throttlebody itself. Maybe someone else can chime in on this--but just asking the question might help

it's the pre-drive by wire throttle body... 98 528i M52 motor, build date of 7/98 :)

No, just the codes in the DME. You'll need a BMW-compatible scan tool to do it.

I think he means the TPS on the secondary throttle body for the ASC problem.

not sure which sensor it is... i bought a multi meter tester today and tried to self diagnose, but to no such luck... any tips on exactly how to test for a faulty sensor? and, since my CEL light is on and the asc light is on as well... would the sensors even be working?
the procedure, step by step, to diagnose both sensors... asc throttle body and main throttle body would be very helpful. I read to test both the connector wire end and the sensors as well. I am having my indy look at the sensors wednesday morning to see which one(s) i need to order.. thanks guys. |
What codes are you seeing?

Tps sensor, circuit A , and CAN throttle valve. Asc light only comes on when I'm on the highway :(
