both remote keys stopped working
 

Hi Guys,

I have not found anything similar using the search, maybe one of you can help. We have a 2006 X3. My FOB stopped working about a week ago but the key of my wife was still working fine. So I started to get ready replacing my battery following the instructions here on the board. However, now my wife's remote lock/unlock also stopped working yesterday. I highly doubt that both key batteries died at the same time.
One possible failure I think might the charging of the keys while driving? Has anyone seen that befoe.

Any other suggestions are very welcome, I am out of warranty s obviously I would like to do some research myself before having the dealer look at it.

Mark, do a search on the key -- I seem to recall there was a conversation about cleaning the key blade with a product (made for cleaning electronic contacts) that got rid of whatever was making the recharge difficult or impossible whilst driving. It has been awhile back but it was in a discussion about changing the battery in the key fob. Made sense to me, and I kind of filed it in my memory to use if that problem occured with mine. Anyway, I would try that before cutting into the key case -- and it is difficult to believe that both keys would fail at the same time. Good luck!:thumbup:

Our keys charge through induction like a Braun toothbrush. If both are not working I would have it diagnosed before I did anything drastic.
