535i consumption is 16.9 MPG !!! HOW come ??
535i consumption is 16.9 MPG displayed on the idrive car info !! I just had the car 3 days ago !!!! and I drove local in city once or twice small free way ride !!! is this normal !!!
I thought has to be 22+ MPG on comfart mode ?::dunno: |
Follow the link in my sig to Fuelly and check out how other 535's are doing and then just give it some time and your mileage will climb.
|
Why are you always so hyper?
In any event, I used to average about 19 in decidedly "city" driving. |

I am getting 13.5 mpg in city driving.
Have about 10k miles on the car. Not happy indeed |
My 2010 535i with 31,000 averages 24 mpg, mix if city and highway. I think this is exceptional for a car such as ours.
|
Lead footing it? It's easy and fun but has a cost which I'm quite happy to pay!
Try zeroing the mpg and take a thirty mile cruise at constant speed on the interstate. Should jump the average up and ease your mind. You do need more miles to get a real feel for the true mpgs. Sit back and enjoy:thumbup: |
icu, let the car break in for 5000 miles or so and then start paying attention to the MPG. It should increse by 1 to 2 MPG if you drive mostly in the city.
|
thank You Guys !
|
If you drive like a Red Bull addled 16 year old, you prob won't get over 17mpg in this car. I am at slightly better than 20 mpg and I only rarely stomp on it. For long range cruises it's at 30+ though.
|
Lay off the LOL pedal OP.
That being said, can't wait for the diesel F10 :) |
As others have said it will get better. I get 26-28 with my 98% highway driving. The few times I do city driving I still get about 20 mpg. 30k miles on the car though. The fuel economy hit its best after I passed 20k miles.

If this car was on the lot before purchase, a few test drives around the block would yield a lower average fuel reading. |
thanks I just did reset it per your advice hopefully will C an increase
|
dang You R a genious now showing 20.5 MPG mainly city/ some freeway rides;)
|
i think you're just learning to enjoy and drive the car.
if you haven't noticed, the 6 cyl. has a bit of zoom. it will go up or down as you drive. it will go up as time goes along. but until the engine is broken in to your driver's style, it is.....well what it is. it's within specs for a well-driven 535 without beign scared of the throttle. as you log cars on, mpg should improve. around town should improve closer to 18-19mpg. on the high way around 70-80 mpg is should head into the 28 mpg area. i used to the 550xi. around town it's 23-15.5 maybe 16. on the highway it could hit as far as 25-26----depending on traffic, driving style, snow. my advice: just enjoy the car! |
Part of the issue is the bullsh!t CALIFORNIA oxygen rich gas. I have to suffer it too but when I leave the valley and get out east my gas milage will change in one tank of different gas. Proven 3 different times with 2 different vehicles.
|
Check your right foot if it is lead then there is your problem.
|
Filled the tank on my 550i with 400 miles on it at the interstate entrance and zeroed the mpg counter. Once up to 70 mph I set the cruise and headed for the turkey dinner 90 miles away.after about 30 minutes the average mpg was trying to break into the 30 but never made. The average traffic flow was 80 mph.
Got bored and played in traffic the rest of the way. Love how the tach is at 1900 at 80. Average mpg was 28 ish when arriving for dinner. Happy Thanksgiving! |
Just drove 70 miles at an average speed to 50 mph, mostly hilly highway and some city. Got 26+ mpg in my 535xi.
Car only has 1000 miles on it, so nowhere near peak mpg ( i hope...) |
The key beyond the right foot is the average speed. What is your average speed on the DIC? If it is under 22-25 you will get dismal mileage. Once I hit 30 the mileage really climbs...

Make sure you are NOT in "sport" or "sport plus" modes (rpm are a little higher effecting fuel economy) |
i get 29mpg on long haul highway driving, only 17mpg city
|
I got 31 mpg on my last 600 mile trip each way. I did not use Eco pro because my average speed was 85mph.
Now for standard city driving I get 17-18mpg |
