Still getting P0174 code :(
After reading up on this code I thought it was the intake boot for sure but I just replaced tonight and it looked like new with 90K on the car. I also changed the plugs (NGK) and the acceleration/idle improved :)

So, without throwing parts at it I would like to see what everyone thinks? 02 sensor (wouldnt this affect both banks and also throw a P0171)? MAF (I cleaned it with MAF cleaner)? Air leaks (How do I check for this)? Crank case valve? TB/ intake gasket?

I am tempted to just bring it to the $tealer for diagnosing :rolleyes:

You might also add DISA to the things to look at.

ICV, CCV, DISA (doubtful) possibly a single O2 sensor failing?

DISA was in great shape (not broken and took some force to move it). I cleaned it up while it was removed when I did the snorkel.

Is their anyway to test the MAF?

Should I replace the 02 sensors anyways at this mileage (90K)? If so, should I just do the front or both?

Also, should I do the CCV anyways? It seems like this part is bound to fail in the near future judging by other posts about it. I found a complete kit in Ebay with hoses for $90! Seems like a great deal for the parts.

The car runs just fine with no driveability issues or idle problems. Just the pesky CE light!

CCV is probably the problem

There are 4 O2 sensors and typically only the front 2 need replacing.

I would steer clear of any cheap CVV kits on ebay. You don't want to do this job more than once. I'd stick with OEM.

Did you read up on CVV and check the suction with your oil cap off?

I agree that an aftermarket product for this job is a calculated risk, and of course the labor is the major component anyway.

But given that the OEM part in this instance is prone to failure, and in an awkward location, I am surprised there hasn't been more discussion of a better fix like:

Not yet available, but looks a better option than putting on another bunch of plastic and rubber parts with a known failure rate from the dealer.

On other forums there has been discussion of BMW's unusual approach to separating water and oil, and also whether the cold climate version really is effective.

Wrapping pipe with a thin layer of foam in this sort of application could be an exercise in futility.

Any thoughts?

I would think that replacing the system with an aftermarket catch-can would be the way to go? I did a search and it looks like guys are doing this in their E46 cars. Not sure if I could post links to other forums but go here to see....
