94 525i Exterior Driver's Handle
 

Well, the inevitable has happened. I now cannot open my driver's door from the outside nor inside. :mad:Anyone have this happen to them? Does anyone have any advice or links as to how I can remedy this problem? Thanks in advance!

Ahh! The BMW Gods were with me. Just went outside and "gently" pulled up on the door handle and viola! Door opened. Now I can begin to remove the panel and begin to repair whatever is broken within the mechanism.

BTW, 49 views and not a single response. Have all the fellas I used to chime with gone from here?

For those lurking; Determined it was the latch mechanism and ordered a new one from the dealer today. :thumbup:

I did Haolibird, don't have the time and because this part is difficult to access, I'd rather spend the $90 bucks on a brand new one. Who knows how worn one from the junk yard is and I don't want to go through the trouble of replacing this again. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Concur with the "Time = $$$" equation, as well as wear factor.

I'm sure if was a passenger door, you would take the time.
I love when there is a constant reminder of the car "not quite right", especially when opening the door!

Glad that you sorted it out. Could you post up a part number or a direct realoem.com link to this latch that failed ? I think I'll get a new one into my ride's on the drivers side as a form of insurance.

Bavarian wanted $50 for a used one and who knows how old that one was. Just received a brand new for $92 my cost.
BTW, I'm by the 57 & the 210.

All complete.
Reinstallation of the latch wasn't as difficult as I thought. The door panel was a bit challenging though. I also reinforced the back of the door handle with a small piece of metal. Handle began to pull away from the door panel. Now it"s secured very tight again. :)
