How many days from production start to end?

Mine started in production yesterday or today. How long does it usually take to complete production and then subsequent stages?

It appears to be ahead of schedule as I was not supposed to be in production until week 51 (next week)

It takes 40 hours to complete production.

shane.reid 12-13-2012 12:54 PM

40 hours just to build - or is that body and paint as well?

Want the Thrill 12-13-2012 05:20 PM

40 hours from start to finish. Once it is done, it may take a day or two before it goes on the carrier to be delivered. Mine had finished production on the 1st of July and arrived on the 2nd of July in Michigan!

Well, there's Production, and there's Build, which isn't differentiated by BMW. Entering Production doesn't mean that your X3 is being built. The actual build process is 40 hours, but the Production process is longer. Sorry, but I don't recall the time between when my X3 hit Production, and when it rolled off the end of the line.

Made my deal 12/07; received my production # 12/10; checked the web site tonight and it states "order documented"; there are then 4 steps; production begins; production ends; enroute to the U.S. (which is strange ); finishing touches and At You BMW Dealer.
Is there a source for more detailed info ?

The website has good, but the most delayed updates. The 800 number has better updates. Your salesperson has the best access to information. Annoy the #$%^ out of him/her with regular phone calls. Seriously. Do it. He/She will be unlikely to call you with updates - you're now forgotten until it's time to schedule delivery. So call. Every day if you feel like it.

800 ???; whats the number ?; thanx in advance !

shane.reid 12-13-2012 06:52 PM

I called the 800 # (1-800-831-1117) and it is estimated completion date from production of 12/20.

Now the wait to see how long from then to get to Virginia Beach, VA. We'll be out of town for the holidays 12/23-12/27 - so looking like a 12/28 delivery for me, regardless of production. Unless it gets done early and makes a 12/22 - but seems unlikely from some google searches.

drpie 12-13-2012 07:00 PM

Thanks; no production date yet !

scubapup 12-13-2012 07:16 PM

I have macro on my phone as I kept calling the 800 number and the voice recognition is horrible

I had

+1 (800) 831-1117;2;[prod control number];1

Also made sure to turn on mute

I think what you're actually asking is "How many days does it take for delivery after the day it's ordered". I'll tell you next week, but it should be about 20 days- I'm in NJ.

noka 12-15-2012 05:59 AM

Anyone know the average number of days from the time it is assigned a production number and the 1st car icon is visibile on the BMWUSA site (saying Order Documented) until the 2nd car icon is visible (saying Production Begins)?

rambos 12-15-2012 07:53 AM

Your production number will be on your p&s agreement on the day you singed the order. The order number will be available at the bmwusa site when you signup. Since you are in MA, your car should be delivered in two weeks+ based on the current production schedule and your dealer quota. My order went production in 3 days after signing the order. Online information is really a bit outdated. If you call the 1800 number (option#2) it will give you the most updated information including the production schedule date.

noka 12-15-2012 09:02 AM

Dealer ordered end-Nov. On 06-Dec he provided production number to me. On 13-Dec he said production number changed (to a lower number, so I assume a better slot). BMWUSA site and 800# still indicate "Order Documented". I'm in MA also but mine seems to be taking longer for whatever reason.

UPDATE:
Today (21-Dec) status on web site transitioned to "Production Begins" :)
800# indicated completion date of 10-Jan. Just bad timing with plan shutdown :(

shane.reid 12-17-2012 06:28 AM

Excitingly, my production completion date changed over the week from 12/20 to 12/19.

Living in Virginia Beach, I'm hopeful for a December delivery due to short transportation time from Spartanburg.

16 days for delivery after order date. My dealer is about 700 miles from Spartanburg, SC.

drpie 12-18-2012 06:29 PM

Production date completion has moved up from 12/21 to 12/20 ! Anticipation is building !

shane.reid 12-19-2012 09:35 AM

Mine is "at port" which I'm told means somewhere in the process of going from Spartanburg to Va beach.

Dealer says 12/23 arrival (sunday).
