Should i buy 03 745LI, 41,500miles, 17999$$??

Hello all.I currently drive a weany w202 99 class benz and it so tiny its time to upgrade. so i have loved the big body style of the 7 series bmw and the s class of the mercedes (preferibly the bmw) for my whole life. and now im in the market for a 02-05 7series (LI for leg room). And i have heard of all these electrical problems with mostly the 02,03 (correct me if im wrong) 7 series. Im having hard time finding a 04 or 05 with low mileage. as i am looking for a 7 with low mileage preferably under 60,000 miles. i have found two good deals and just wanted your guys input.

2003 745LI: 41,500 miles, 17999$$. Heated front&rear seats.Park distance control. front cooled seats. Moonroof.Premium sound package (says 13speakers? correct me again pls) Sterling gray metallic. Looks (key word) immaculant in and out. 1 owner and carfax shows only 3 service records and them being wiper blades and the first service at 3,000 miles (LOL). any who looks great!!!!

2002 745LI, 80,700miles 11,500$$. Same packages as last.

I cant seem to find anything like the first buy . everything else im seeing is 14k for 100,000miles! and other bs deals.

What is a good buy? i know these have problems but what is the most common? and to be straight honest (be real with me) how many actually have problems? I've read and mostlikely will be getting a warranty. If you guys could just give me some input on what would be a good buy, the common problems , ect that would be great!!!!
thanks guys!!

Well 40k is very low miles, but I can't see an 03 going for 18k unless it was brand new in a barn somewhere.. I would say maybe 15k would be a good amount to offer. Maybe settle on 16k if 15k is denied, I wouldn't pay more than that though, just my opinion.

Stay away from the '02,

Seven11 12-21-2012 07:54 PM

i would stay away from BOTH!!!

here is why,

the '03 with 40k miles might look attractive with low miles... but get ready to fix/change everything because nothing broke yet... and break, it will http://mangahelpers.com/forum/images/smilies/yoda.gif

you're better off buying one with 100k PLUS miles with a great service history and one that had all the issues fixed than a low mileage that had nothing changed!

and just stay away from an '02...

if u want a nice car for cheap, stay away from all 745's... period!

i know all of this because, i had a low mileage '03 745i which i bought BAAAACK in the day and it had the 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty and i bought extended warranty on top of that...

and i had the car 'til like 105k miles and it had over $50,000 in repairs and not counting all the mods that i did... yes... u read that right 50 grand!

And on top of all that your car was that gray color. I told you that you should have gotten Barbera Red!

sirstopher 12-21-2012 09:38 PM

All of the e65/66 will have problems. Just read the threads on the first page.

sanhonda22 12-22-2012 02:00 PM

I would most likely go towards the 03. Since the car is a one owner, see if he has the service records. If the car has not had many issues or unexpected trips to the dealer, that would be a huge plus for me.

still kicking myself for that one!

Ghettobird209 12-31-2012 09:19 AM

So still havent pulled the trigger on any car yet..... I love these cars though!!!!! So all 02,03 7 series going to have problems? and The only service records on carfax are the first service at 3,000k miles and windshield wiper replacement at 20,000k and just emission test reguraly (passed all). Doesnt show it going to dealer for problems at all. and how is real MPG on this thing? I drive quite a bit and just wondering how it will be cruising at 65-70mph and in city? Also the Ipod Integration do people like it in these? DIY? and bluetooth phone? or ........ I really want this 03 bmw 7. I havent found any other deals that have low mileage and are great priced. Most are priced 15k for 100,000k miles! So you tell me which would be a better buy this one with 40k for say lets say i get it at 16,500$ or one with 100k and for 14k?

1bad540 12-31-2012 01:05 PM

If the cars history looks good and the miles are low and you want the car just get it. 40k miles is low for these cars. Just expect to have a little cash to invest from time to time.

Ghettobird209 12-31-2012 08:00 PM

Most likely will, Your guys opinion, (statistic's wise) out of 100 how many will have electrical problems? N does anyone do the Ipod integration? or Nav update? Is there a updated Verison of the nav? like can i get 2012 maps? I just want to know all this type of stuff before i buy the car and find out i cant do a bluetooth with my iphone (4s) or a wire or what ever to make the car work with my phone. Stuff like this is big to me although might be small to many. Also i've seen so much on this thread about some time of "Wheep hole"?????? what is this?? Thanks all in advance for help

From what I know the 2012 nav maps discs can be bought online(beware there are many fakes) or from the dealer. Bluetooth should work if you have the 4 digit pin which can be found by peeling back the left side trunk liner and looking at the TCU unit that has a sticker which has the pin, if the owner doesn't give it to you.

came stock, maybe someone stole the module??

To the original poster, if your looking for a big body 7, 17k isnt gong to get youmuch better than that 03 with 41k miles, Personally I would keep looking for the facelifted 750.

And the 03 with 41k miles is exactly what im looking for. Although an 2006+ e66 would be amazing!@ But that is going to run me to 30,000$ and im paying cash for this next vehicle i never finance. :dunno:

Thanks for your input.

So yah im guessing NO ONE does an ipod integration kit????

Ghettobird209 01-10-2013 10:06 PM

By the way it was built int 07/03, a later model... almost a 04!! :P..... but is 07/03 (July 2003) a good build month? i seen some where that 02/03 was the worst (feb)

cmpcpro 01-10-2013 11:24 PM

I hope it is, mine was built 07/03 too.

First 745li I think he is referring to the Bluetooth puck. That is what I had to use on my 745i. Its shaped liked the Motorola CPT9000 and snaps under your armrest. Can be found on the bay or maybe here in classifieds.

Oh ok... I've looked at that before, so this doesn't come stock. Thanks for the clarification.

The Bluetooth puck (BTUM) is available at dealer for around $300 with the BMCCA discount. If you're not a BMWCCA member, it may be time to join. I think it's $48 a year but gets you a 10% discount at the dealer on parts. I also see some used ones on eBay

Install isn't bad for a DIYer to install and instructions come with it. Here's a previous thread on how to install
