All seasons for M3
Merry Xmas everyone!
A question for the group: Does anyone run their M3 with all seasons? Here's my situation. I have an '11 E92 lease that is up in March of '14. I've had a second work vehicle to drive so the M isn't winterized, but I'm taking a new job so that vehicle is going away and the M will be the daily driver. I need to get thru the rest of this winter and next (relocating to Kansas City btw). My first option is to put an All Season on to get me thru - I thought about getting a winter beater but the logistics of a second vehicle don't work. I'll need to replace the original summers before the lease is up anyway so putting an AS on with the same specs is my first choice.
So is anyone running all seasons on their M? Are they the same size (I think the rear of the car is 265s)? And if so, any recommendations for an all season that performs well in snow?
Any input would be appreciated and TIA!
Will you be getting snow? All seasons won't really help in temps under 45 degrees. While they're better then summer tires, you still lose a significant amount of grip. Get yourself a set of proper winter tires. It'll really save you in the long run.
OP, do you have the 18" or 19" rims? According to Tire Rack, there is an all-season tire available in the 18". Perhaps even the 19" but I didn't check.
In-terms of lease trade-in, I suspect the vehicle inspector will only look at proper size and tread depth.
I can understand your desire to use an all-season tire. Especially if you plan on returning the M3 at lease end. However if you get a fair amount of snow and/or ice, use a dedicated winter setup. There are enough owners who use their M3 throughout the year and there will be a market for the setup.
All-season tires are a "jack of all trades but master of none". A dedicated winter tire will make a difference on a M3.
If you get any snow at all I'd suggest some dedicated snows. They will be relatively easy to re-sell here or other BMW enthusiast sites.
I've done that several times as I'm always switching back and forth between M3's and X5's and 335's and always convince myself I'm going to keep this one...
