Does anyone have any experience with washer pumps? Both of them quit. When I remove them and power them up with 12V, they draw current but don't run. There is no output at the connectors in the engine bay. I checked every fuse that is supposed to feed them and then checked all fuses - none bad. I put a generic one on the reservoir and wired it to a toggle switch as a temporary fix. Works fine. I have no idea how to troubleshoot the control board that operates the pumps. The "online" manual thru eautorepair.net is next to worthless. Any suggestions?

I haven't seen anyone reporting both pumps failing simultaneously, or with symptoms of no voltage at the pump.

Usual problem is one pump failing and/or leaking, with an easy solution of an OE or aftermarket replacement pump(s).

Sounds like you have narrowed the problem down to either the multi-function switch on the steering column, or a relay.

The washers are surely not like some other electrical components that interact with others through the CAN-bus?

So I don't think there is necessarily a control board that operates the pumps, unless by that you mean the switch beneath the lever.

For some less common problems it can be useful to search on the E46 board as well.

Doesn't tell you where that relay box is (behind the brake servo?) nor any followup from the OP on an outcome unfortunately.

Did you test both your O.E. pumps with the separate 12V feed and found they then worked, or does identifying the 3 terminals on them make that a non-starter?

I checked the pumps for continuity - OK - they only have two connections. They pull current when you connect them to a battery but won't spin. The local auto parts store lists a generic pump as replacement so I bought one, it works fine off the battery but not the car. Checked for voltage at the pump harness with someone working the stalk - none. Are there relays in another enclosure somewhere?
