O2 sensor replacement question

As I'm learning this being my first BMW...I know when you replace certain things you need to go in with something like INPA and reset the adaptation values so it can learn the new part....I have 169k on my 330 and am going to replace the upstream oxygen sensors. If I just do a replacement will the computer adapt properly or does an adaptation reset have to be performed? I don't have access or a way to do that.

When I was reviewing the technical literature in preparation for replacing my car's pre-cat sensors, neither TIS nor the Bentley manual mentioned the need to reset adaptation values.

Replace them and go about you life. If you have codes just clear them. Otherwise you need to do nothing else.

No adaptation needed. It's plug n play.

For the future, most things replaced do not require resets with the computer.
It is the exception to need to reset.

We wrote a good explanation of all the tools here:
- Explanations of INPA, EDIABAS, NCS Expert, DIS, EasyDIS, Progman, & other BMW factory & dealer programming, coding, and diagnostic software & cable interfaces (1)

You E46 guys have a specific sister thread on the tools also (it's referenced in that thread above if you don't find it elsewise).

For the E39, we listed the modules that require a reset. They should be similar for the E46, I would think:
- How to better understand your 17-character BMW VIN (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) and online BMW VIN decoders (0) (1) (2) (3) (4) & what is the definitive list of electronic computer modules that need recoding once replaced (1)
