aftermath of starter replacement
whats up fellas... so after the grueling experience of replacing my starter on my 97 528i via moving the manifold out of the way not completely off... after putting everything back started the car fine... when i cut the car off i hear the sound of air escaping.. I went back over it. I didnt take off many vacuum lines but what could it possibly be? any ideas thanks:D

Did you have to take out the oil dipstick tube to get the starter out?
I think this is only done if you decided to take the starter out from below the car. If so, then perhaps the seal on the dipstick tube isn't sitting flush. |
yes i did have to remove the dipstick... but i put it back flush.. is there a seal on the tube?
|
Yes, the oil dipstick tube has a seal.

Hi,
What you hear may well be normal sound of air moving through the throttle butterfly when the engine stops, I would be having a good listen with the engine running may be use a piece of plastic hose against your ear and other end put along the manifold area to try and id any areas of concern. Dave. |
thats about the area that i hear it.. but i don't recall hearing that before hand... i could be hyper sensitive to noises after putting everything back.. not wanting to screw up
|
The PCV hose is attached to the dipstick housing.
|
i have that attached...
