lost all heat!!! baby born yesterday need help asap

I was sitting in drive thrust when all a sudden it was like steam started coming full speed thrust all my vents and noticed it was running a little hot. So after bout 2 hours of letting it cool filling it up with water and driving a mile before running hot again I finally got it home. It was like there was coolant condensation in the vents and coolant in the floor board what would this be? Baby was born on Sunday and really need my vehicle back and running.I have a 90 525i

What is a "drive thrust"?!! It sounds like the heater core done blowed up.

Sorry I meant drive thru like fast food. And how much of a pain is it to change? And can I bypass it like most vehicles?

TemporarySanity 01-09-2013 01:04 AM

I haven't done mine buy know a couple guys that have. They say it's a big job. As for bypassing it, I'm not sure, you'll have look into it. Good luck!

There are other threads if you want to do the work yourself. Seeing that you are a new Dad, you probably won't have any time for this.

Congrats on the new baby by the way!

Congratulations on the birth of your Son!!

Sorry about the heater. It is a pain. I had to replace mine. It is a big job and a pain but if you are careful it will come out OK.

Congrats on your baby. My heater core started leaking slowly over the last 6 months or so. It was not a problem in the summer because my heat controls were set to full cool (which, if I'm not mistaken, cause the heater valve thingy - I'm having a brain fart here - to stop coolant flow from going through the heater core.

I researched it and saw that it was going to be a major job, so I had mine done by my indy mech for $625 including a new cabin filter. It was money well spent in my opinion because even he said it is a big pain in the butt to do.

Good luck. Also, he said that my hazard flasher button broke upon removal which is VERY common and he had to source a used one, so if you do this yourself, be very careful in removing the hazard switch.
