New, need help!
What you see here is a beautiful representation of an 89 635csi. That's right, I am the new proud owner of it. Now, to get started I have a few questions about it.
1. Where do I find parts for this thing? And I don't mean every day things like (spark plugs, belts, accessories, etc.) I mean, is there a site like say, (autoatlanta.com) for Porsche, for classic BMW's?
2. I have an issue with the power steering. It makes a weird noise when I start the car, and intermittently works, also leaks alot of fluid?
3. Cruise control is not working, any suggestions?

Personally I use Pelican Parts, AutohausAZ, and Rockauto for most of my replacement parts purchases. Check out the fest sponsors. too. There are several that are parts suppliers. ( ECS, Bimmerworld, TMS among many others)
Determine where the leak on the PS is and fix it, then flush and refill with Dexron III ATF (you didn't put power steering fluid in it, did you? :nono: )
Check fuses for the cruise control, then test to see if it's getting power.

For parts, if you need interior or exterior depending on where youre located I would try a Pick-N-Pull... You cant beat their prices on large body panels or interior parts like dash boards seats etc... AND YOU CAN GET LUCKY, and find an L6 or M635, or a few Euro E24's out there with ///M options and sports seats, rear spoilers etc.
You have to be handy with the spanners and other tools, but its only 2 dollars to enter the yard and you can pull all the parts you desire...
As for your power steering leak that is VERY common, it is either going to be the High Pressure hose coming from the PS gearbox OR hose coming from the Res, either way you will notice cracking and ATF coming from the hose..
As for Brand new mechanical parts, all of the above vendors are great + try ebay, and Europarts.com!
Cruise control can be one of 3 things, comfort Relay, Fuse, or Bad stalk (cruise control module switch). Start with the quick and easy checks first, like fuses, then relay, and then move towards the switch.

reaLLy reaLLy beautiful car u got there mate. congratulation upon your purchasse, u did the right thing when u bought it :D :) welcome into the sharks clan. Now take your time, and slowly slowly build the car the way you want too. Don`t rush in buying and doing things, ask questions, and discuss things, a lot of members are very experienced and have owned an 6`er for a long time, and i bet they will be happy to respond and give free advice.

635 p/s woes
Congrats great car but you now may have 25 yr old rubber hoses living in a v hot place.They all harden and crack,then leak.Yours may be the same issue on my 88.As I recall there are 2 hoses running to the p/s pump,a return line and the culprit is the high pressure line.It needs a factory part only replacement,about $150,its well hidden,part rubber,part hard line,about 3 ft long w/special fittings.When you leak fluid your pump runs low and makes funny noises as it wears out.Keep fluid up or get to a hoist and look for leaks soon. For parts use ebay,they have everything,NOS,used items,new german parts,replica parts for way less than the dealer.Dale
