Rear fog lights review
I finally got off my butt and got the rear foglights working. Someone else figured it out and I just followed their guide. This involved replacing the switch with a new one, and running a wire to the FRM. Forgive the pics, iPhone :eeps:
New switch with rear fog light buttons http://www.wardphotography.com/Foggy/IMG_1469.jpg These are as bright as the brake lights since they use the adaptive brake lights http://www.wardphotography.com/Foggy/IMG_1458.jpg Close up of them on http://www.wardphotography.com/Foggy/IMG_1466.jpg Tonight was especially foggy, and they worked great! |
Where did you buy your switch?

They are also a huge PITA for the drivers following you at night when there is no/not much fog if you have them on just because you can! Once you have followed someone with their rear fogs on you will understand how annoying that can be.

Which is also why God invented 5% window tint. Always amused after someone flashes their brights at me from behind. Doesn't make a damn bit of difference when your rear windows are blacked out. :p |

That would be the button to turn off the display for the HUD |

IMHO rear fogs is an atavism, like a cassette deck. Modern tail lights are bright enough for pretty much any conditions; I'd even say front fogs are pretty much obsolete too, and no wonder they are used for supplementary functions like cornering lights, etc. But as long as OP uses them appropriately, not like a douche below, more power to him.

I've always thought that if I really needed rear fogs, it would be an indication I was drivng too slow....
BUT, having had some fun here, kudos for the effort. :) A |

Amen to that! Rear fogs can be useful and appropriate, assuming people only use their fog lights when it is foggy. But they are extremely inconsiderate to other drivers when used by those people who drive around with their fog lights on all the time as a style. "look at me, I'm a cool dude," statement. |

I put the Euro switch on my X3. We're retired, like to travel, and have crisscrossed the USA several times (even drove from Florida to Seward, Alaska and back once). On many occasions we've found ourselves in some real "pea soup" and in these situations rear fogs have their place:

English might not be his primary language. :)
How's your Portuguese?:tsk: |
Does our X5 have a similar switch to the 335d? These guys just cut off some tabs on the US switch and now they have a rear fog light switch. Seems like a relatively easy mod.
