My E39 will be 10 years old next month!
 

121,000 miles later..Still looks as good as when it first came out from the dealer. This shows the high interior quality, exterior paint and general workmanship of this car. Most common "issues" have been taken care of. But I am sure most of you can relate, after everything is good and fixed something will come up. Right now I have random no starts. It cranks hard but the engine won't fire up. After several tries it will eventually start. Seriously thought about going to an E90 route but for now I have spent many $$ and plenty of DIY hours to let this one go.

Mine just turned 15!

She looks good, Mine is 14! just hit 100k, I am keeping her for better or worse till death do us part. I dont see the point in ever selling her, I cant make enough money back to justify it. Will I buy a new car, yea sooner or later. E39 stays in the stable for an easy retirement.

Looks like a keeper.
Start with battery & charging system, then work your way up - check the electrical connections to the CPS sensors. There was a post showing bad/frayed insulation of the small wires enetring the connectors due to heat cycle. Then check the negative terminal under the pass side cabin filter.

My car turned 10 this month. I plan to paint it in spring to give it a new perspective on life.

Interesting that you have a low cluster on an 03 with sport pkg and DSP.

Cranks hard wont fire up... sounds to me like fuel problem ?

cant be battery.. if it can crank hard... and after many tries it will fire up..

so I am guessing it has to do with fuel issues. fuel filter ? when was the last time it was changed ?

btw your car is clean!!! lol.. mine is a 03 530i sports package as well not as clean and nice looking as yours !!!... coming to 10 years also.

Hi, seemas if your crank sensor is the problem; had a friend with a 2002 540I that had the sane problem. I presently has a 2000 528I same co;our as your with 225K miles. Just started to give me a problem of draining the batteery over night. I did a current draw test today and could not detect any circuit that was draining it. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Mine tuned 10 now only 125k k/m, please do not wait for payback when driving Beemers, they are like owning a boat, you keep spending on it many $$$$ yet you enjoy fishing, I drove many cars in my life but never tasted driving control like this.

My interior still looks new, and it drives like new. Has 115,000 miles on her but doesn't show it.
I'm 55 this year and will be keeping this beauty till I can't drive anymore, or DIY anymore, whichever comes first:)

Mine is turning 16 years in 6 days time!

Mine just turned 16 and still looks like new..... Rarely spent a night outside and has lived in moderate climate. With 120k on the OD , it runs great.

One thing that this car has had since new in 1997 is that if a problem showed itself, it was repaired immediately.

Like others , I will keep her until a lack of a drivers license makes us part ways..... Which will not be before my 100th birthday I hope.

Your problem sounds like a fuel system delivery problem .... Fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors need a check .

The nice thing about using this forum is that the problem you are having has happened to someone before you . Discribe the problem with all symptoms on a timeline and you will get an answer.

What is unusual for having a low cluster on an 03 with sport package with DSP option???

My is only 34000 k lol

mine is a 2003 as well, only 69000 miles last wednesday :bigpimp:
