Owners with the space saver spare
When you lift the floor to access the spare, do you have a strut/shock to hold the floor up while removing the jack & spare?

BMW took it out of the U.S. model after the first year or two of the E70 as a cost savings. |
There is a DIY on here somewhere including the list of parts needed.

I have the shock in my 2008 4.8i

Ask and you shall receive:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=498387 Part Numbers 51-47-9-149-120 strut ~$41 51-47-9-138-212 plate ~$12 07-12-9-903-027 screws ~$1 each (Need 4) Should cost a bit less than $70 for all shipped. |
I got the strut for about $40 or so from getBMWparts.com - the dealer is near me so I picked it up. The holes to unstall were already in my 2013 X5. Took a couple of minutes, most of the time being spent climbing my old body in and out of the back of the vehicle

Thanks! |
the kit from getbmwparts had everything in it
|
IIRC it was "decontented" in 2011. Our 2007 and 2008 both had it. Our 2011 does not.
At least our 2011 has the tie downs and floor tracks... |
I have mine on X5 2013 3.5i... my car is latin america version.
But other question, I have run flats, but I still have a spare on the trunk... is this makes sense?? It seems BMW doesnt taking care about costs... strut, spare on run flats.... ? |

Yes, but I heard a lot of people don't have it. You can add it yourself with OEM parts. |

What else did BMW cheap out on?

Luggage compartment roller cover Dipsticks Rear cigarette lighters Base stereo (was severely downgraded in 2011; I understand it's better in the 2012's and 2013's) If you are an old timer like me, you even remember when your new BMW came with tools, a first aid kit, a warning triangle and a flashlight. Heck, between the E60 and the F10, they even took "The Ultimate Driving Machine" out of the 5 series. |

Got the kit from getbmwparts.com and installed it in less than 5 minutes....the crazy part about it is that the holes are there in the cargo lid AND the bolt with the round piece that the strut snaps to is also already there....it literally is like they just forgot to add it.

Someone was selling them on ebay I remember.
