BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade

I am pricing out a 2013 X5 35d and am noticing the Maintenance Program Upgrade. It costs a cool $2495 and covers your BMW for an extra 3 years or 50,000 bring your covered time to 6 years or 100,000.
I'm wondering what everyone thinks of this upgrade. Is it a good investment or is it unnecessary? Any feedback regarding this would be very welcome & helpful.

Thanks!

I bought it and wouldn't do it again, just before my warranty & maintenance programs expired.

There is absolutely no reason to buy it now. You can buy it before your regular Maintenance program expires if you really want to. Also, you can shop around and buy it from any dealer. That's not a great price that you got quoted.

Oh, that explains the price then :)

My local dealer would only quote me MSRP though; I had to go elsewhere for it.

Well, we've established thats a terrible price.

But do keep in mind that you have 4 years/50k miles to decide to buy the plan...NO need to buy it now.

if you do buy it and sell the car or it is totaled, you lose the $$$

It isnt "extra 3 years", it is only two years.

Finally you should really unbderstand what the plan covered- for example if you make it 3 years and 45k miles until you do your first brake job, then the 'plan' will likely run out before the next brake job. You're paying $2495 for two oil cjhanges and a brake fluid flush!

Anyway, wait for a while and see how it plays out.

+1! Nick, you are in SB why not check with 'fest founder Jon and get his price -- however I agree with Ard it gives you little and costs a lot. To me the extended warranty would make more sense just because there is the chance more will go wrong and BMW things cost a ton to fix/replace if you are not a DIYer -- or just don't want to hassle with it. I never did understand the attraction for the maintenance program -- aside from the brake job -- there is not much else covered of a mechanical nature. And as others have said, you don't have to decide now you have a lot of time and can get prices from other dealers. Good luck!
