Battery registration E 83

Do I need to "register" a replacement battery on an 07 X3 ?

No, an E83 does not have the built-in capability of accepting battery information like later models do.

It's at least partly to do with BMW's migration to AGM or gel batteries - they have somewhat different charging needs.

Another factor is the never ending quest for more power and better m.p.g. by reducing the drag from an engaged alternator whenever possible.

Yes, you should register your battery. Some people say it's a "must" -- I agree with those that say "must".

If you can do coding, or have access to a coder, you can use INPA if your engine is listed there. If not, you can use EDIBIAS ToolSet 32 to register. (I had to do the latter for my E70 4.8i which was not listed in INPA.)

EDIT: I see Supercourse disagrees with me. I thought the X3's required registration too. I'll let someone else chime about X3's. Note that it's not related to AGM, gel, or wet cell batteries --- it's just the fact of having a new battery.

Thanks for the info - so quickly. I will not worry about registering at this point.

The E83 X3 does not need battery registration nor is their a process for doing so.

BMWs with newer electronics packages do though.
