Fault Codes
Apologies for this being my first post here, however I am in urgent need of some help with pinpointing the potential causes of these codes.. I've only just bought this and I'm already feeling foolish for doing so, as it all seemed fine when I went and looked at it, including starting from cold and taking for a run until it was warm. The misfire didn't start until I was 2/3rds of the way home.
It's been plugged in and came up with: 11 - Camshaft Position Sensor Outlet Bank 2 162 - Camshaft Position Bank 2; Synchronization Crankshaft 170 - Seconday Air System; Low Flow 79 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 114 - Vanos Outlet Camshaft Control Bank 2 145 - O2 Bank 2 Control Function 209 - Misfire Cylinder 5 210 - Misfire Cylinder 6 213 - Misfire Several Cylinders 12 - O2 Sensor 2 Before CAT 206 - Misfire Cylinder 2 212 - Misfire Cylinder 8 149 - Error Occured With Empty Fueltank 200 - Misfire Cylinder 5 With Cylinder Cutoff 203 - Misfire Cylinder 8 With Cylinder Cutoff 204 - Misfire Several Cylinders With Cutoff 196 - Misfire Cylinder 1 With Cylinder Cutoff 197 - Misfire Cylinder 2 With Cylinder Cutoff 198 - Misfire Cylinder 3 With Cylinder Cutoff 199 - Misfire Cylinder 4 With Cylinder Cutoff 201 - Misfire Cylinder 6 With Cylinder Cutoff 202 - Misfire Cylinder 7 With Cylinder Cutoff These were then cleared and it was taken for a short drive, here's what returned: 79 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 11 - Camshaft Position Sensor Outlet Bank 2 162 - Camshaft Position Bank 2; Synchronization Crankshaft 145 - O2 Bank 2 Control Function 149 - Error Occured With Empty Fueltank I'll get it plugged in again after it's had a bit of a longer drive. Any advice or ideas appreciated  Thanks, Dan. |

The old codes, dont worry about.
But of course you go a PPI, right??? Pre Purchase Inspection??? Well, anyway... You need to replace the EXHAUST camshaft position sensor, bank2. I kind of recommend replacing all 4 CPSs (two intake, two exhaust) as they tend to fail. The run about US$80 per, more or less. PITA to install. Lots of DIYs. The crankshft error is most likely due to the CPS- once they loose track, you'll see crank errors. A few things to consider: O2 sensors, MAFs, VANOS Orings, Fuel Filter. But replace the CPS and go from there. and by far the best online forum for M5s is M5Board dot com A |
Thanks for your help, will get some bits on order. Waiting for account activation on M5board already ;)
