Emergency preparedness - what do you carry in X5?
I am planning to put together some emergency items that I'll carry in the X5 all the time. Right now don't have much, first aid kit, flashlight, tire pressure gauge, inexpensive torque wrench with a 17 mm deep socket for tire change, screwdriver, cable ties, rope and jumper cables. With the limited space (I have the space saver tire) I am trying to be smart about my emergency kit.
What do you have in your X5 in terms of emergency preparedness? How do you fit it in your vehicle? Thanks! |
Don't use my preparedness as a standard..but I only carry a tire pressure gauge,iPod and first aid kit (which I mainly carry as a just in case for when I go mtn bike riding). Oh and a roll of paper towels - i found those to be the most useful.

Water, paper towels, flashlight, batteries

Small tarp
Duct tape I have small zip ties, medium and very large. Few hose clamps, spare fuses. Hand tools, adjustable wrench. No torque wrench, I can wing that! These are in my car, wife's emergency kit is a cell phone and AAA card. Although on a few road trips I've tossed my emergency box into the back of the X. |
I think my X5 came with a little tool kits and first aid kit. I have run flats so no tools to change a tire. I have also put a roll of tape and a multi-tool in the back hatch.
Other than that BMW Assist is supposed to come and get me if something goes wrong, right? Guess I'm not that prepared if I don't even know what my preparations are... |
Fun post. some of my forester chums and I are obsessed with preparedness.
Advanced first aid and trauma bag AED Liquid filled silva compass and Delorme GPS Full rain gear and boots Wool blanket and hot packs Mag light Flares Cable ties, bungee cords and ratchet straps Electrical and duct tape Basic tool kit Hydraulic and high lift jacks Medium come along Shovel, small saw & ax Glock and pepper spray A few hundred bucks US and Canadian Power bars and water. Probably a few more items, but you get the idea. All but the jack and come along fit in an action packer that fits perfectly under the retractable cargo cover. Truth be told this gear spends more time in my 4runner or suburban as the s5 doesn't spend much time off blacktop. But I do pack it on road trips. |

Are you on safari or something. Where do you fit all of this stuff in an X5, a trailer?
|
I have a spare set of floor mats. Is that enough?
|
I knew this would be a fun post. I keep my passport on me but two passports is a great idea. Raises the stakes with my chums.
Like I said, it all fits in an action packer that slides under the cargo cover. |
Microfiber towels, a bottle of water and quick detailer in case a bird takes a **** on the ride.
