550i 400 or 407hp
Not that it makes much difference but I am curious why I see hp shown for the 2013 550i as 407 yet the window sticker and website show 400.

Where did you read the 407hp? Folks were debating about the 400hp vs 445hp earlier with the N63tu but that's not happening with the '13 550i. MY14 LCI maybe.

I was also watching a program on tv (based out of Dubai) where they reviewed the 550i and published it as having 407hp. But see this website below. It too lists the 550i as having 407hp.

That's the BMW international site. They base hp on kw. Conversion of 300 kw = 407 hp for the 550. Maybe the U.S. rounds it to nearest 100th so 400hp. That same site states the 535 has 306 hp while US specs it at 300 hp. Difference is so minimal. It's just how a particular region wants to market it. Maybe someone more technical on engine specs can chip in their 2 cents.

Read up on DIN vs SAE hp. I think that's the difference you observed.

I'd say that's it.

The E60 M5 was rated 500HP in the US and 507HP in Europe. There seems to be a constant difference of 7HP between the European and US models. If i recall correctly the previous 7-Series V12 was rated at 438HP - and again, 7HP more (445HP) in Germany.

Yup! That's it.

1 sae hp is equivelant to 1.0139 din hp. So 407 (din hp) / 1.0139 = 401.420 sae hp. I'm happy that I have 1.42 more horses than advertized. Lol!

In the United States, automakers quote power in terms of SAE net horsepower in accordance with SAE standard J1349. SAE Net horsepower is measured at the engine's crankshaft, and does not account for transmission losses. The SAE net power testing protocol calls for standard production-type belt-driven accessories, air cleaner, emission controls, exhaust system, and other power-consuming accessories. This produces ratings in closer alignment with the power produced by the engine as it is actually configured and sold.

It is my understanding, the standard adjustment for these accessory loads is 7hp. US spec cars are almost always listed as 7hp lower than their European counterparts due to the required accessory load.
