Car started shaking randomly
 
Hi,

I know my O2 sensor is out on my bmw x5 its a 2002 3.0 with about a 150k miles car runs absolutely great drove from Oklahoma to Texas and not a problem nothing. But yesterday while we were driving the car started shaking randomly and did not get any acceleration. I pulled over turned it off and started it back up and nothing it drove fine have driven another 200 miles and no problem ....anyone think its a major issue?

Plus it makes a rattling noise when going over bumps or at low speeds but at highway speed the car drives like a charm

I would recommend he check for codes even if the SEL light is not illuminated.

The SES light is on I had it checked it autozone they said ran the Codes and it was the O2 sensor and a vacuum leak but no other codes showed up

Sorry for the delay guys hard drive decided to crash on me so just fixed it and here are the codes:

P0171 O2 sensor defective
ignition misfire repair
fuel injector problem
fuel pressure condition or MAF sensor fault

p0174 Same as above
Engine mechanical condition

P1347 Misfire cylinder 3 with fuel cut off

P1085 Low fuel pressure
Large vacuum leak on engine
Failed MAF sensor
Ignition or fuel injector fault

P0303 Plugged or faulty fuel injector
Vacuum Leak
Engine mechanical condition
Ignition system fault

P0171 and P0174 are considered lean code in bank 1 and bank 2.

Looks like you have a problem with number three cylinder. The injector appears clogged or faulty. The misfire in cylinder three with fuel cutoff is probably all related. You will have to correct each problem individually. Perhaps correcting one problem will also correct some other problem. I would start with cylinder number 3. Check coil pack, spark plug and fuel injector.

The low fuel pressure code could be a clogged fuel filter. When was the last time you had the fuel filter replaced? Fuel filters are close to $100.00+ labor. Most owners don't replace these until they have a problem.

Hi I dont think the fuel filter has been changed I haven't had the car that long ....And i read somewhere it could also be the air adjustment valve or something like that....I will have the fuel filter replaced tomorrow and let ya'll know thank you! :)

If the DISA valve hasn't been change it could be the cause of the P0171 and P0174 code. The valve is around $200.00 but it's an easy DIY. Just two torx screws and unclipping one electrical connector is all there is to r & r. Youtube Video has a video on replacing the DISA Valve.

Ok I will change the DISA valve first......i looked up the video it looks pretty easy I will then clear the codes and see if it goes away !! thanks again :)

Hi,

Awrite found the cause of all the problems its the air adjustment valve or DISA .....its making the trademark sound on the vehicle having it changed today hopefully it should fix it

Hi .....it was the air adjustment unit .........changed it and voila all codes gone except the O2 sensor which i will change here in a couple of days thanks for ya'lls help !! Cheers :)

Thanks for posting back with the solution to your problem. Many people comes on this forum and post about their problems but never post about the solutions to their problems, so the thread is worthless for future people doing a search for fixes to similar problems.

yup u got that right i surf a lot of forums and most of the times they don't say if it has been solved or not....but yeah only the o2 sensor and the SES light wil be gone :D
