Active Hybrid 5 Video and Pictures
Hey guys! Just visiting over here to share some media of the Active Hybrid 5 loaner I picked up today while my F13 650xi coupe is at the dealership (some gadget is staying on and killing the battery dunno:). Put together this little video today, and I thought I'd share it with y'all.
There are some pics on my blog as well if you're interested: http://southern6er22.blogspot.com/20...brid5er22.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQIbueVHoNU |
Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

I checked your blog out, thanks for sharing! I was looking at the pics you posted and I thought, "maybe they could have written Active Hybrid 5 just a few more times on the car, just in case you forget your driving an active hybrid 5...
Did I mention it was an active hybrid 5? :) |

But Wait...there's more...uh...I mean less!
Wait 'til you unsuspecting folks get a look at the trunk (or lack thereof). I drove the car, and loved it. But the trunk can hold not much more than a sandwich. Ok...that's hyperbole...but it is so small that you really have to see it, and, while the video was pretty good (though it reminded me of a voyage at sea in places),I was surprised that the trunk was not viewed (unless I missed it). There is definitely a lot of badge going on. I think there's an optional EfficientDynamics decal that covers the entire hood. ;)
I am a little disappointed in the fact that its only getting 22 mpg (over 55 miles, > 50% highway). The onboard info shows 26.4 mpg for the life of the car, which is better but nothing to get too excited over. And Auto Start/Stop is sooo annoying! I'm not sure how the AH5's compares to the regular 5er, but it definitely has a modest trunk. My 6er's (coupe) seems larger, which is kinda sad given that the 6er is the second most impractical BMW (Z4 holding the #1 position). On the topic of the trunk, all of us on the F12/13/06 forum are extremely jealous of the F10s auto trunk. We don't get it as an option (or even a soft close option), so it requires a good bit of force to pull it shut. Seems like a petty complaint, but it is really, really annoying in the real world. It's also embarrassing in the parking lot when you're loading groceries and the frumpy soccer mom in the 5 year old Toyota minivan next to you gracefully pushes a button to close the back, and I (with my $100k+ coupe) have to nearly throw my back out closing the thing using the hidden hand holes. Rant over... |

Did I mention the super sexy wheels? Nothing as exciting as low drag coefficients. :) They certainly don't want to let you forget. I, however, remembered every time I was moving using the electric engine only and the tach was at zero. It was also pretty apparent in Eco Pro mode when I was standing on the throttle and the car leisurely made it to 60 in about 10 seconds. That's unnerving when you have a huge F350 pickup flying toward you and you know they'd like to squash the little hybrid for the fun of it. What can I say? I live in Alabama lol. |
