Just checking coolant levels
So I went to check my coolant levels on my 2000 E39 with the engine cold and the red thing is sticking up way past the lip, all the way. So I look in there and dont see any coolant??? It does not run hot, but it will venture over the half way mark on the gauge but never runs hot or in the red.
The top of the red float must be level with the top of the tank. You have added too much coolant to the system. The tank needs an air cushion for proper operation. The coolant level is not visible inside the tank. Drain some out via the drain ¢o¢k on the underside of the radiator. (I can't believe they censored this word!)
Unlock the cluster and monitor the actual coolant temperature, test #7. The coolant should not rise above 108 deg C.
I typed /coolant level F3 into the bestlinks and this popped up:
- Expansion tank floating mechanical coolant level sensor height (1)
