Driver Side Window - had a little trouble going back up

1st time this has ever happened to me. I lowered my window to show my ID to get into work this morning. It made a little noise going down this time...kind of like a creaking sound on old wood floors. Well I go to put it back up, it makes the same sound, goes up about 5 inches, then automatically goes back down. So I try a second time and it does this again, this time it goes up a little further. I wait about a minute and try a third time and it goes all the way up.

So now I'm wondering - what would cause this? It is only 25 degrees right now outside. Would that have an impact at all? Has anyone had this issue or something like it?

I want to be proactive and not get stuck with the window down - especially where we have another 12" of snow predicted for this coming weekend.

Thanks....

The cable inside is probably on its way out. Just happened to my friends '98 e39 couple weeks back. The cold weather seems to be a factor.

Your window regulator is broken. Don't roll the window down again otherwise it just might not go back up. You gotta get it fixed

That could happen without warning like that. I've never had any issues before - just this AM. It never even made a peep before...

Yep gives no warning just goes out in an instant, well you kinda got a warning because you managed to roll the window up again.

try the BMW window regulator, it should fix your issue you are having

Remember to re-initialise the window after you've changed the window regulator.....the instructions are in the DIY section.....
