Nav DVD gives error message...

2 Attachment(s)
Anyone seen this message? I used a DVD cleaning disc multiple times, but no luck. The Nav disc was purchased from a member on the site.

These are the messages I receive.

Incidentally, the original DVD that came with the car does work.

The vehicle is a 06' 750Li
Thanks!

Are you sure you got the correct map disk? There's a "professional" version and a "high" version. Your 2006 should take the high version.

If the DVD is in the Navi unit then it looks like you need to replace the laser lens in the Navi unit itself.

Rookie2008 02-21-2013 10:13 AM

You can send the unit out for repair if you are unsuccessful at attempting to replace the lens your self.

Definitely make sure that you have the right version as mentioned above. I was annoyed that my navigation unit kept spitting out the DVD, then I used the correct one and it worked fine.

If the old disk works but the new one doesn't, I don't think you need a laser repair. After thinking some more about it, you might need to upgrade the firmware to use a more recent disk. Look for the v.32 firmware instructions - I think you can find them in the DIY section.

most copies dont work, use an original disc.

It sounds like the head is failing, had the same symptoms and eventually the original wouldn't read. Cleaning it inst going to make much difference. Try the firmware update first just in case as suggested :)

Thanks for all of the input guys...Like I said, the old disc NEVER presented these error messages; The firmware upgrade sounds like a great Idea...I'll let you know!

Megawattman62 02-25-2013 09:54 AM

Well as it turns out, I have the 9.8.2 hex firmware, so I have nothing to upgrade too, as I understand it. I drove 600 miles this weekend with the factory disc and had no issues whatsoever. Hmmmm...

Ok, went to Tom Bush BMW in Jacksonville to purchase the firmware update that this site says can be had for $10. Not according to Tony, their "expert". He will not sell the update but will install it for 1 hour labor, or $125. Nice...btw, the links in the firmware upgrade instructions don't work, so I'm unable to burn a CD. Is the upgrade disc available for purchase elsewhere? Thx

Just throwing this out there, but could the disc have been burned in the wrong format?

Are there any instructions available for how to update the firmware? I'm getting the error that there's no disk in there....but it is.
