F10 5 Series - How to repair the 12v cigarette lighter fuse
The Definitive DIY Guide - How to Repair the 12 Volt Cigarette Lighter Fuse
You have put your car key in the central console, as design. However, like 99% of all people, you have other (metallic) keys attached to your car key. Sooner or later one of these will make involuntary contact with the open cigarette lighter contact. And then the fuse blows....clearly a design error in an otherwise very fine car. Now you have the resource to fix the fuse!
A big thanks to Ivan for putting this together for the community!
Thank you. This really helped me today.
I dunno if the fuse blew because of my keys, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Thank you. I saved for the case necessaire
Replace Ligher Fuse
Excellent entry for exactly my problem.
Dropped the keys in the drinks compartment and fused the cigarette lighter.
I have RHD F11 (Estate UK) and it was fuse 54.
Maybe due to RHD the 54 fuse was totally hidden.
Had to release panel below glovebox to get at fuse but eventually was able to replace it.
Saved garage visit and cost but what an akward position for the fuse.
I got the fuse replaced without any problem and all is well. But --- do you think I could figure out how to put the little red fuse puller back in the holder in the trunk !!? For the life of me, I couldn't find the spot where I had taken it from. I finally had to admit defeat to the dealer. Doh !!
All else is well. Really love the car.
