I'm looking to spend under a grand

This http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335...nce/ES1832870/

And this http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-41...-mufflers.aspx

Are great exhaust systems, but they are both $1,100.

BMW e92 03-02-2013 05:01 PM

Have you ever heard them ?

I have the PE. Cost around 1k + install at dealer another $200. Slightly over your budget but it is truly the voice of God. Don't go by youtube videos. You must hear it live from inside the car, at various speeds and offcourse the 1200-1400 rpm burble, zero drone. Love it. Now finally I listen to music in my car and hear the thunder in the background !! I bought here.

What does PE stand for?

bear-avhistory 03-02-2013 05:21 PM

You never said what you want the exhaust for. Its its for power save your money & buy down pipes. If for sound get the PE or IS factory version. IS is not quite as loud as the PE version.

BMW e92 03-02-2013 05:25 PM

i would like an increase in horsepower but also for a more aggressive sound

bear-avhistory 03-02-2013 06:43 PM

The only exhaust item that will make a noticeable power increase is down pipes. The mufflers have no meaningful effect on horsepower, maybe 5 to 8BHP at extreme top end. Knock that down by 15% for a dyno number.

performance exhaust. Note if you get downpipes and dual cone intakes etc it may change the sound of the PE. (subjective - for better or worse). PE on a stock e92/n54 is sublime. The only mod I did to the PE was getting black powder coated 3.5" Dimisa tips. Now you have an exhaust that looks like IS and sounds better than IS...

Guessing you look to make some noise. BMW performance exhaust is excellent and includes the software change[s] that make it work so well.

Check that last part when buying 3rd party.

First I've heard about the software tweak. Does it relate just to the cold start flap (the golf tee mod device) or engine management?

Not expert on this but believe ECU programming change related to PE back pressure. In that respect, similar to golf tee mod.

Or am I nuts?

bear-avhistory 03-03-2013 08:17 AM

Performance exhaust does not have the flap, the IS does. I keep mine open with the JB4's software. Maybe the thing Cal is talking about is to prevent the PE from throwing a code. The codes for the flap are "hidden" so you will not see it in normal driving but it will show up on a service check.

PE back pressure note

Was prepared to swear there is a software adj that comes with the package, installed at dealer, but can't find the reference. Poo.

Back o'my mind, there is an ECU change to enable burble & spit, but can't find that either.

Concluding: I am nuts

Ray of sanity: Comes to me above's in the PPK, including PE.

Well, Power Performance Package [PPK], or also PPP, includes an ECU remap for, what was it, +20 hp? Includes something for Performance Exhaust [PE] too. If grey cells serve.
