First and foremost is some tint. Not really an upgrade but I will post pics once that's done.

Other small tweaks like a hardwired valentine one (was hoping it would be easier than I think it will be).

I did get a ton of accessories so I will post pics of those as well.

Gorgeous.

White was the other color I loved. Went with LeMans since my last car was off-white.

I am so antsy now!! Car arrives at my dealer tomorrow.

Congrats Ex-One, enjoy your first days with it!!

I love the white, it's the mineral white metallic.

I love the Mineral White. We would have likely chosen it over Mineral Grey if my parents didn't already have a 328i in Mineral White.

Get the Savvy for the V1. I just installed it in my 35i and it is seamless while at the same time can be removed when taking the car in for service. It plugs in to the OBDII port and powers the unit. i will take some pictures and post them of the install. here is a link to the part. https://store.valentine1.com/store/default.asp

congrats on the new car!!!

I would like to see how you wired the Savvy up. Where did you mount the radar detector and hide the wires?

eric9610 04-16-2013 01:38 PM

Ok here is where the Savvy plugs in to the OBDII. I found a opening above the hood release and i am working on filing the cover in 2 locations for the cables.

I tucked the cable in the opening between the windshield and the dash.

So I ended up using the inviscord cable and wired directly to the rear view mirror power with ground.

I will post a pic soon.

you need to be careful using it that way, i had it like that in my e90 and the dealer will no warranty anything its connected to. When i had mine that way it cased issues with my airbag switch and sensor.

I've never had any issues in any other cars (both Mazda's) with the rear view mirror set up but this is my first Bimmer.

I guess I will keep an eye on it.

Great looking M Sport. I'm waiting to see one in person before I order. I have asked my SA to contact me when one comes in.

@eric9610 - can you give a short review of valentine 1 + savvy? Does is false positive a lot on the highway?

If you set the V1 to L (logic mode) there are very few false positives. Also if you have never used the V1 there are tones associated with specific bands.

EX-One it looks like you used the homelink power to install your V1, is there a writeup here about how to do it? I just got my brand new '14 black X1 M Sport and need to install. I've read that the power is switched which is an ideal source for me as I always forgot to turn it off in my last car (not disclosing "what" that was).
TIA,

I'm picking up a 3.5 M Sport in a week in Munich. I love the white. I got the white with the red interior. Mine will be a 2015. I was wondering why you didn't get the M badges on the side of the front fenders? It seems that all the M Sports made after a certain date have the badges.

Which invisicord? Standard or micro version?
How long?
Switched power? Which color combinations?

I have essentially the same setup.
Thanks,

If you do not want to mess with wires I can vouch for the Escort Solo S3. It runs off two AA batteries and operates a long long time on those. It turns itself off when you forget and most importantly its early detection ability is excellent.

If you use these you probably realize most squad cars are using an aim and shoot device so while the hard wired devices might be a little more sensitive the big issue is to get the warning and brake immediately before the computer can lock on to an average speed. When travelling out west over long expanses it is not unusual for my Solo to pick up a signal a mile before smokey comes into sight. But as I said, most squad cars do not use a continuous device anymore extreme sensitivity is not a major consideration.

The other really handy thing about the Solo is you get two mounting brackets so when you switch cars just grab the Solo and pop it on the mounting bracket of the second car. It slides on and off easily.

I never go anywhere without a radar detector. It has paid for itself many times over. One thing about the X1 is if you need to brake discreetly such as getting radared on an overpass you can grab the hand brake and slow down without flashing the brake lights. Of course there is an element of danger with that if someone is behind you but still I like the option of braking "silently" from 80 to 60 mph if need be.
