Playing videos on 2014 X3 with media adapter
Has anyone who has purchased the iphone media adapter been able to play videos on their 2014 X3?

I get the sound but no video, I don't even see the video icon under the additional category.

At the dealer my phone worked fine in a 5 series that has the same software version, so both the CA and myself are puzzled. We also tried the adapter from the 5 series in my X3 with no luck.

It may depend on which iPhone you have as I read in another post that if your using an iPhone 5, you may need a different cable. Apparently there is more than one BMW cable for iPhones.

Sorry should have stated, its the 4S with the correct adapter. You can't play videos with just the cable. It's just really weird how it worked first time in the 5 series.

Well, my CA told me to bring the vehicle in so they can check this out and I did that on Wednesday. They spent all day reinstalling software on Thursday and that didn't work, so now I am told (after discussions with BMW NA) that any vehicle manufactured April 2014 or later does not have this feature (not sure if that is just X3s or not). A service bulletin has been issued which I'm going to look at later on, when I return the media adapter! The only thing the media adapter does now is connect to the external aerial and that's not worth $250 to me.

Thought you might like to know in case any of you encounter the same problem.

My X3 was manufactured in late April, and I am able to play videos with my media adapter. I did do some coding, but I don't recall if I was able to play videos prior to my coding (I coded so many things I don't remember!). It was in the following module:

HU_NBT 3003 API_USB_VIDEO --> both

Videos shows up as an available menu option.

Glad you posted this because I do have another question which my BMW dealer is unable to answer. I do not see a "plugin" option when my iphone 4 is attached to the media adapter in the ConnectedDrive screen. Is it possible that they also disabled this feature as well? Plugin is an iPod out menu replication view in the idrive screen which provides an alternate view to the BMW default view for playing media files. I have not found any information as to whether this is a code-able feature.

Yes Plug-in has gone to, here's the email from BMW NA.

"There is a new strategy which now eliminates the in-car video previously supported by the snap-in adapter. A car built after 3/13 that has the 6NR Apps and 6NS smartphone integration no longer has the video option along with the plug in feature which also used the video input... Reason for this is that the iPhone 5 and other smartphones don't offer the video out previously supported by the earlier iPhones."

The potential work around is to put your video files on a USB stick and play from there but I haven't tried that yet.

Obviously your post shows that its not a hardware problem and has simply been coded out.
