Advice on a 2006 325i

Hello,

Yesterday I test drove a 325i 6-speed manual with 66K on it. Great condition. A seemingly clean Carfax with two owners who took good care of it. First owner a lease with regular service. Second owner a personal owner who, according to Carfax, brought it to dealer every 6,000 miles for service through Mile 56k and a clean emmisions report at 66k.

Biggest service on CarFax was water pump replaced at 51k and Ignition coil(s) replaced at 53k. All service by both owners done at same BMW dealer. Both owners seemingly took care of this car.

Car was fun to drive. Extremely clean inside. Dealer asking 16,990, which I think is high. My target is 16, but I'll go 16,200 ...

Any thoughts on ...

1. Price

2. Concern over manual transmission? ... More or fewer issues than automatic

3. Do not really prefer a black interior, but can live with it. Any hotter than others?

4. Another thing ... I live about 2.5 hours away ... I asked about a PPI, and they said they could take it to a shop of my choosing within 10 miles. Cynical part of me says I should be concerned, but I'm not really.

1) I don't know.
2) Fewer problems, probably. Although BMW (and GM / ZF) seem to have gotten things figured out for E9x.
3) Yes, hotter.
4) bimrs.org & bimmershops.com. Peace of mind?

How long has the dealer had it on the lot? The manual makes it both an asset and a liability... depending on whether they have a buyer for it. Play your cards right and you could get a good deal.

The car ...

has been on the lot for about a month. Yeah, I look at it as a plus/minus. Tough to sell because most prefer automatic, but I'm sure many would love to drive it. I get what you're saying. Awaiting PPI, but will certainly use the negatives of the manual to hopefully my negotiating advantage.

From the sound of it, you've done your homework and have things under control. Enjoy your new car (hopefully)!
