2012 X3 Surges Forward

Looking for possible answers.
Have a 2012 BMW X3. I come to a stop in parking lot, and before putting car in park, car has unexpectedly surged forward while foot is on brake. This has happed two times. Both times have resulted in front end damage. Have had 4 previous BMW's and many other cars with no issues like this, ever.
Suggestions? Thanks

2012 X3 Surges Forward

I called BMW in Long Beach and they claim they have never heard of this issue before. The service manager talked to a lead technician and he has never heard this before and no TSB's were issued.
I started looking online and found multiple postings with the same problem......X3 surges violently forward with foot on brake.
I called BMW North America and reported the incident and they are supposed to get back to me in 1-2 days.
Very scary problem!

Any suggestions on what would cause this?

Welcome to Bimmerfest! I've moved your thread over to the F25 X3 forum. That sounds like a scary issue, let us know what the dealer says. If anyone one else has had issues like that post up!

Tim

2012 X3 Surges Forward

How much does it surge forward by? 1-2feet? 1-3 car lengths? And how fast does it move forward? That is a scary situation and cause for great concern. How far apart did the 1st and 2nd occurrence happen?

We had a service loaner that developed transfer case problems. (dealer told me after it was towed in that the transfer case needed to be replaced).
The car would jolt maybe a foot when put in park. My wife drove like this for a day and a half.

Funny story, since it was a loaner, she put regular gas in it, she thought because she put regular gas it was just running rough. I didnt think anything of it the fist couple times she mentioned it, but then the next evening, she mentioned it again, so I took the keys and backed it out of the driveway and in again. Needless to say I called the dealer and had them send a tow truck.

I've noticed this too! I have pulled into my garage, came to a stop with brake fully depressed, pressed P, then held my brake longer than a few seconds (normally I take my foot off the brake about 1 second after P is pressed (since the car is in park)) because I was distracted by the radio, gathering things in the car, etc. and then taken my foot off the brake and the car jumps forward (I'd estimate less than a foot--maybe a few inches) violently.

It freaks me out because I immediately reapply the brake and look down to the shifter to see if I forgot to place the car in park....but lo and behold, every time it lurched forward, the car shift indicator was always in park. And I can't recall this ever happening right after I shifted to park (which might be expected if I let off the brake prior to park fully engaging)...I'm virtually certain it happens after I have delayed releasing the brake pedal at least several seconds after pressing park.
