On my '99, the sensors have no layer of paint on them at all. Not sure it matters as they are ultrasonic...

I thought the OFH gasket was leaking on my car (M52TU, '99 528i) but it turned out to be the metal crimps on the Vanos line that runs from the Vanos back to the OFH.
