I really think its your alternator with the...

I really think its your alternator with the voltage readings fluctuating the way they do (inconsistantly charging your batt.)and that could be the reason for your batt light to be on and traction...

nice pics thx for sharing, and since you are a mechanic then the x5 isn`t a bad deal, but when you can`t repair your own stuff on these beasts thats when the labor prices are out rages

I`d check the maf sensor, your situation is exactly what happened to 1 of our ford vans at work ,just died . got it towed to the shop and they cleaned the maf sensor and is all good to go.

these x5`s don`t need programming,for new batteries so you did get ripped there. I installed my own and no programming is needed. the new x5`s that are out now need programming for battery...
